Why is it that so many people fail at MLM? Yet, somehow, a small portion of others make insane amounts of money!
The only people that fail are those that give up. Most people give up for one of the following reasons (and sometimes both):
1-They are tired of being rejected.
2-They are tired of not seeing results.
MLM stands for Multi-Level Marketing. It is a business opportunity where affiliates or consultants are compensated for not only sales the that they make, but for sales that team members they referred make down through multiple levels. It's a great business model, but most people that try it end up quitting before they really give their business a chance to grow. I believe that the biggest reason for this failure is that most people leave out the "Marketing" portion of "Multi-Level Marketing."
Let me explain... Most people that join a MLM company are told by their sponsor to make a list of everyone that they know and then call and try to sell them on why they should join. This is not effective marketing! What happens is that when the new recruit starts going through that list and hears "NO" on the first five phone calls, they become very frustrated. This is especially true because they are usually being rejected by people with whom they have a close relationship and with whom they place a high degree of trust. It is difficult being rejected, but even more so when you are rejected by someone you love or care about. Even if the new recruit is determined enough to keep going through their list, they will eventually run out of people to contact.
And if they did not quit right at the start, they will usually fizzle out after they run out of prospects from their list. Sound familiar? There is a better and easier way to do MLM. It involves bringing the "Marketing" back into MLM. The idea is to use business tools and resources to do the inviting, presenting, and selling. It also involves only marketing to those prospects that are interested and looking for a business opportunity. When done correctly, a new MLM recruit will not get frustrated from being rejected by family and friends because they never approach family and friends. When done correctly, a new MLM recruit will not want to quit from lack of progress and results because they will have a constant and steady stream of qualified prospects that are interested in joining. What so many people that have failed in MLM could have done differently is learn and apply the art of marketing. Here is an effective example of marketing...
1-Use some method to attract the attention of prospects (placing ads, direct mail, internet, etc).
2-Provide a means for those interested in more information to get their questions answered.
3-Direct those that are still interested to where they can find even more information and/or make a purchase.
If at any point the prospect is no longer interested, they eliminate themselves from the system without the new MLM recruit having to hear or even know about it. They never face the rejection personally! If they ever make contact with an actual prospect, it will be with someone that has already shown interest and that would just like to get some questions answered. This is a fun and effective way to do business and could have kept a lot of people in MLM from giving up out of frustration.
Learn to put the "Marketing" back into "Multi-Level Marketing" and you might find yourself enjoying what you do and stick with it long enough to possibly see some very exciting results.
